Choo Choo City had a big weekend playing
volleyball. |
| |
|
The Choo-Choo City 18-1(Atlanta),
16-1, 16-2’s, and 15-1’s(Chattanooga) won their tournaments this
weekend. The 15-1’s, 15-2’s, and 18-1’s have already won 4
tournaments this year while the 16-1’s have won 3. This has been
the most successful year for any volleyball club in Chattanooga with 2
of those teams finishing top 25 and another finished top 9 in the
National Qualifiers. All of our teams are doing a great job of
teaching the basics of volleyball and the chemistry of being a team not
an individual to our players which allows us to have a lot of our
success. 5 of our teams are ranked in the top 5 in the Southern
Region(Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee) and have a great opportunity to
make it to the Nationals in Dallas Texas in late June. To be a 2nd
year club and have this success can only say what a great core of
coaches and players we have.

The CCCVBC 152 team hosted a tournament this past weekend to compete in Chattanooga. The team competed against others from Atlanta areas, Birmingham, and Kingsport. The team SHINED!!! They were first in pool play, and finished w/ an 8 and O record in pool play. They advanced to the semi finals as they NUMBER ONE (1) team in their pool. In the semi finals Choo Choo faced KVC. They took the match 25-22 and 25-15. In the finals Choo Choo battled hard the first game and won 26-24, but won comfortably in game two (2) 25-15 to take FIRST PLACE!!!!
The challenge we face as coaches is imparting the love of the game to our players. This past weekend I truly feel as if more of our young ladies NOW feel the love of the game. Winter Simpson and Hope Johnson came thru w/ key blocks. Paige Atterton left the team in kills. The team shared aces throughout the day lead by Holly Brotton and Haven Carter, as a team they had 54 aces!!!!(said head coach Daniel Millsaps) With this being our second first place victory for the season, we're positioning ourselves to compete quite well at Big South and Regionals.
All ten (10) ladies really put forth extra effort to bring home first place!! Rebekah Bolis and Jordan Grant took charge w/ passing and communication. Aileen Johnson, Brooke Miller and Lori Hurlbut provided kills at vital.

Choo City Has a Great

- February 2nd, 2008
It was a great weekend for Choo Choo City
Volleyball. The club hosted almost 80 SRVA

place at 18 power and 17 power. The 152 won

in 15 and 16 power.
This is the second victory in a row for the

continued on its success winning in two
games (25-17, 25-18)
This pitted the girls against a very
talented Williamson County Select 151 team
who entered the finals with a 9-1 game
record. The Choo Choo team struggled the
first game of the finals loosing to Select
12-25. Behind the encouragement of Coach
Sarah Lail and Jennifer Summers and the
cheers of the Choo Choo crowd. The girls
rallied together and found the confidence
built in each other. Game two was a battle
with bodies hitting the floor and pleas for
having heart in the huddles. The Choo Choo

2007
The Choo Choo City 15-1 Junior Olympic Volleyball
team beat Alabama Juniors, to win the Alabama
Juniors Tournament Championship 25-18, 21-25,

in game play this year.
The team played solid during pool play with wins
over Team Sting 16-2, Mountain Valley 16-1, Alabama
Juniors 16-4, and a tie with Alabama Juniors 15-1.

In their first two day event of the season, the team

Jonesboro area. CCC jumped out to a quick start taking
the first game. Arkansas came out with something to
prove in the second game to force game 3. In a close
game, the talented team from Arkansas went on to win the
match giving Choo Choo City a strong 3rd place showing.
"This was by far our best effort of the year as a team,"

effort with all 12 players giving solid performances.

Choo Choo City 18s Win Chattanooga Volleyball
Tournament
February 4, 2007
The Choo Choo City 18s
Junior Olympic Volleyball team beat Dig To Win's 18s, to
win the Chattanooga Tournament Championship 20-25,
28-26, 15-9.
The Choo-Choo’s played solid during pool playing
finishing 1st in their pool beating Nashville’s Select,
Memphis Metro, Dig To Win, and North Atlanta. This was
their 3rd tournament of the season.
"It was a great team effort to do so well," Paul Brock
said. "Courtney Cotter (Junior), Laura Brock, Meaghan
Sledge, and Jessi Hildebrand did a great job of
attacking the ball from the front court to the back
court. Our Middles really made a big difference in our
out come this weekend. Christina Teter (Sophomore),
Lauren Traub (Junior), and Sarah Lyons stepped up huge
and did a really super job of blocking and touch
attacks. Our setters, Whitney Anderson (Junior), Camille
Campbell and Jessica Ball, made our offense happen. They
chased down passes, and went up high to make some great
plays. Nicole Millsap (Junior), our, Defensive
Specialist, and Christy Johnson (Sophomore), Serving
specialist all made a big impact to keep the opposing
teams scrambling to pass and put balls down on us."
The Choo-Choo City Volleyball Club has finished 2nd in
the last 2 tournaments.
The Choo Choo City 15-1 Power team took first place in
the Choo Choo City Power Tournament this weekend in
Chattanooga. This is the third straight tournament
victory for the team resulting in an outstanding 33-2
overall game record. Choo Choo City had impressive wins
over teams from Atlanta, Murfreesboro, Williamson
County, Huntsville and Chattanooga.
The team took first place in their pool with victories
over Williamson County Select (25-20, 25,12), Tennessee
Lightning (25-10, 25-12), Christian Sports of Atlanta
(25-9, 25-13), and Choo Choo City 15-2 (25-20, 25-12).
This secured the team a 1st place standing moving into
the semi-finals. In the semi-final match Choo Choo City
defeated Rocket City 15-1 (25-19, 25-18), which advanced
the team to the final match. Choo Choo won the
game 25-18, 25-16. Coach Sarah Lail stated, "I am
very proud of all of the girls for another great
weekend. These young ladies are working well together
and have learned how to win as a team."
Choo Choo City 15-1 will be challenged in their next
tournament as they move to play in a sixteen-year-old
tournament in Birmingham on February 17th.
The Choo Choo City 16s Junior Olympic Volleyball team
competed in their 3rd tournament of the season this past
Saturday. The team played solid during pool playing
finishing with an undefeated record of 8 - 0 while
competing against teams from Birmingham and Atlanta.
Presented with the challenge of playing without 3
members of the team, several players were required to
play new and bigger roles for the team and all rose to
the occasion.
Brittany Cates, Whitney Hammond, and Heather Parman
shouldered a big load by being required to pass in every
rotation for the entire tournament. They passed well all
day, never getting discouraged after a mistake, but
instead coming back with a great pass for a point
scoring opportunity.
Setters Kelsey Minor and Meredith Morrow took these
passes and spread the ball around within the offense
well all day without being whistled for any ball
handling errors.
Middle hitter Danna Myatt was a force at the net for the
2nd week in a row. She has been the team's most
consistent offensive threat and is really beginning to
dominate the net with her block. The surprise of the day
was Cassie Cochran who was a serving machine in her
first opportunity of the year to serve.
Cassie had several long point scoring runs on her serve
which was a key during the team's run to first place in
their pool. Defensive positioning has been a focal point
for the team this past week and was much improved on
Saturday. Lindsay Remme and Heather Carver set up good
blocks all day funneling the opponents shots to ready
defenders to start transition offense.
The first place pool play finish earned Choo Choo a spot
in the semi-finals against the 2nd place team from the
opposing pool. During the semi-finals, Choo Choo met a
hot Memphis Metro team and was unable to continue their
winning ways. Memphis Metro went on to when the finals
against a tough Cobb Atlanta team that Choo Choo had
beaten earlier in the day in pool play. This is the 3rd
consecutive 3rd place finish for the 16s and they look
forward to continuing to compete for tournament wins in
upcoming two day events in Birmingham and Huntsville.
